![]() ![]() ![]() I am singing straight into it about 1/2" away, using the stock windscreen with the switches all set to flat and 60db of gain on the RNP. It SHOULD sound better in theory, but to me it sounds dull compared to the 57. If anyone has tips on the SM7B, let me know. It makes my voice sound better than it is somehow, which is fine by me! I will have to try a tube mic, RE20 and maybe a Sennheiser MD441, but so far, I am really happy with the sound of the SM57 through the RNP. Something about the proximity effect and the mid boost really complements my voice and Harvey was right, the SM57 through the RNP is just awesome. Granted, part of it is "the room" and lack of treatment, but I have also rented an SP C1, and KSM32, as well as a SM7b, Beta57 and MD421 for dynamic mics and all in all, going straight into the Digi001 without any EQ applied, I just don't like any of them as much as the sound of my SM57 for my voice. I have run a Shure KSM27 through it this morning and my Rode NT1a and I don't like either one. Like - I really don't like the sound of Large Diaghram Condensers on my voice so far. It is money well spent and it is helping me make some other decisions. It is really the difference between looking at a 1 dimensional square on a sheet of paper and seeing a hologram of a cube rotating in front of my eyes. Wow!! Going from an Audio Buddy and my Digi001 preamps to an RNP is not just a "subtle difference" that I have sometimes read about between different preamps.
